本片是青春恐怖片代表作，玩的噱头很有意思：它是一部恐怖片，同时也是对恐怖片的评论。影片人物个个都是恐怖片专家，他们熟知每部经典作品的每个细节。不仅如此，他们对恐怖片的套路了如指掌，比如，其中有人说：“你千万别说去去就来，在恐怖片里，你只要说了这话，你肯定回不来。”该片的剧情有点像阿佳莎·克里斯蒂的推理片，即每个人都像是凶手，但每个人又都不是。影片在使用恐怖片模式的同时，一个劲地挖苦这些模式。片中有关恐怖片的笑料比比皆是，连导演自己的旧作都没有幸免被调侃了一番。1997年的第二集将故事延伸下去，主角上了大学，记者将先前的故事写成书并拍了电影。悬念更多，讽刺色彩也更浓。2000年的第三集主角已经毕业，但某件事使得她和旧伙伴重新相聚。风格照旧，但效果不如前两集。

西妮在经历了前一集的噩梦之后选择在郊区隐居，她的职业是女性心理辅导员，在家中通过电台与遇到困扰比如家庭暴力的女性沟通。影片开始，此前一直想出名的卡登此时已经是好莱坞小有名气的明星，在接到能模仿女性声音的杀手的来电后，他和他的女友一起被杀害。好莱坞的一位年轻导演想要拍上一部里西妮身上发生的故事，卡登正是他选定的主演之一……开拍前又有一位女演员在下班后的片场被杀害了，不久西妮也接到了杀手伪装成她已逝母亲的声音打来的电话，故事就此展开。在得知前面几个人被杀的消息后，西妮回到了洛杉矶，与德威和盖尔再次碰头，同时围绕着他们的血腥杀戮也再度展开……
经历了常人难以想象的痛苦与折磨，威兹堡温莎大学杀人案的幸存者悉妮·普利斯科特（内维·坎贝尔 Neve Campbell 饰），如今隐居在山中，通过电话对有着生活危机的女性们进行心理辅导。与此同时，她的事迹被改编成系列恐怖电影“血腥刺杀”（Stab），第3部《Stab》的主角卡顿却被当街杀害。这一事件让悉妮、戴维（David Arquette 饰）以及盖尔（Courteney Cox 饰）重新聚首。而鬼脸杀手更是阴魂不散，在好莱坞引发了新一轮的血腥屠杀……
