《赌徒》根据1974年的同名电影改编而成，沃尔伯格饰演的吉姆·本内特（Jim Bennett）既是大学英语文学教授，又是一个大手笔的赌徒。他让学生打假球，使自己在赌局中牟利。随着赌瘾日渐加深，他的生活陷入万劫不复之中。由于债台高筑，他不得不已自己的生命为代价，向一位高利贷大佬弗兰克借债。


幕后制作


    《赌徒》改编自陀思妥耶夫斯基的短篇小说。1974年，这部小说曾被搬上银幕，由詹姆斯·凯恩主演。新版《赌徒》则请到凭《无间行者》获奥斯卡最佳改编剧本奖的威廉·莫纳汉执笔剧本。马克·沃尔伯格在影片中饰演主角，他在早前接受《今日美国》的采访中表示，这个角色对他最大的挑战不是减去的五十斤体重，而在于如何让他扮演的文学教授让人信服，“这意味着我在说出那些台词时必须有自己的见解。”沃尔伯格说道。
