　　德国影片《蒼白的母親》以一個女兒的觀點，見證了戰爭如何扭曲父親的性格，並一點一滴摧毀她們母女倆原先建構的快樂二人世界。因為長期爭戰，身心疲累，一回家就要sex；想要有個小孩，卻在女兒出生後對她百般挑剔，甚至連老婆餵母乳都要置喙（怕被吸乾而失卻性愛樂趣）。老婆邀其共舞以沒心情為由遭拒，他又何曾想過一再被要求行房的老婆可會有心情？堅持不用軍方配發的保險套─看似癡情，卻只是變相把老婆當成一個廉價妓女罷了─我要你就得給。本片前半段徹底刻畫一個只享權利（結婚只是取得一張做愛合法通行證），不盡義務（好先生╱好爸爸都不是）的男人，如何把這個家，在國家戰敗後，也一同葬送掉。
本片還有一個相當值得玩味的地方，就是其片名《蒼白的母親》和劇中角色關係的平行對比。我的母親（德國），生下了我，父親（雖沒加入納粹，對妻女兩人的精神桎梏卻不遑多讓）的不當「統治」，卻讓母親漸行漸遠。幾番凌辱過後，父親終於「壽終正寢」（對她們而言），母親和我也終於獲得精神上的緩解。我日後終將和母親（德國）一同作伴，她孕育了我，給了我養分讓我得以滋潤成長，父親（納粹）走了，但母親（德國）才是我恆久且也是唯一的依靠！
