剧情：
　　16岁的碧郎（川口浩 饰）生长在一个信奉天主教的家庭。父亲（森雅之 饰）是个不出名作家，每天奋笔疾书，不问家事；继母（田中絹代 饰）患手足风湿痛，长年卧病在床。所有的家务都落在长女阿玄（岸恵子 饰）一人身上。青春孟浪的碧郎不理解姐姐的辛苦，成天抱怨寒酸的家境和饭菜。他 在学校无心学业，或者打架斗殴，或者结伴偷窃，最终被学校除名。转入新校的碧郎继续玩乐的生活，桌球、骑马、赛艇，不仅增加了家中的压力，还令姐姐担心不已。
　　17岁那年，碧郎被诊断出患有肺结核。时光将尽，他才懂得珍惜身边的亲人……
　　本片根据幸田文同名小说改编，并荣获1961年蓝丝带奖最佳女主角（岸恵子）、最佳摄影、最佳影片、最佳导演等四个奖项，以及1961年戛纳电影节影片技术大奖荣誉奖；1961年电影旬报最佳导演和最佳影片；1961年每日电影奖最佳女主角、最佳艺术指导、最佳摄影、最佳导演、最佳影片、最佳男配角和最佳女配角等七项大奖。
